Three Reasons for the Removal of Amalgam

  1. Amalgam is a heavy metal that will be deposited in the adipose tissue of the body, including the central nervous system. For pregnant and children in the age below 6 years the application of amalgam fillings is prohibited by the health department.
  2. Due to accumulation of years the mercury compounds will be enriched and will result in non-characteristic symptoms like listlessness, exhaustion, and fatigue.
  3. Due to the release of mercury the amalgam fillings shrink and subside into the dental cavity and therefore work like a wedge. After removal of the old filling it is not unusual to see a gap line, but the worst is a broken tooth.
